Jim Pilzner, owner of Nevada Office Machines, formally announced his candidacy on Monday, March 1, 2010 for the Republican nomination for District 26 State Assembly. When asked why he wanted to run, Pilzner replied, “Our state and nation are currently faced with serious problems, and we need people with proven backgrounds to help solve these issues. I believe that I have the qualifications and experience to be of benefit to the voters of our great state.” Pilzner, a successful Reno business owner for over 20 years, has a long history of serving our community, including serving as chairman of the Reno Planning Commission, past president of the Child Care Resource Council, chairman of the Reno AdHoc Affordable Housing Committee, as well as actively participating in numerous other advisory committees and task forces. Upon his election to the Reno City Council in 1993, he spearheaded the initial downtown redevelopment efforts and was the architect of the city’s River Corridor Committee.
When asked about taxes and government spending, Pilzner stated, “I believe the constitutional amendment that requires a 2/3 majority vote of the legislature for tax increases is legitimate and I will abide by it. As elected officials, we work for the voters and we need to earnestly listen to and respect their intents and concerns.” He went on to say that “…fiscal responsibility must start at the top. I believe, as most Americans do, that we must all find a way to live within our budgets, and the government is definitively not exempt from this obligation. We need to find a responsible way to finance a reasonable government without imposing undue hardship on our state’s voters. As in the example of the relationship between employees and employer, the citizens must have an inviolable trust in us, their elected officials, to run our government responsibly and credibly.”
With his dynamic approach to doing business, Pilzner’s enterprise has remained successful despite the recent economic downturn. He attributes his success partly to his considerable experience in both business and government, and acknowledging that “you can’t spend money that you don’t have.” Pilzner assures that these are the qualities he will bring to the State Assembly if elected. “I will be accountable for everything I do.”
